How Tonk Works
Tonk (also called Tunk) is a fast-paced rummy-style game where players try to reduce their hand value by forming spreads — sets of matching ranks or runs of consecutive cards in the same suit. On each turn, draw a card from the deck or discard pile, then discard, spread melds, or hit cards onto existing spreads. You can "drop" at any time to end the round, hoping your hand total is the lowest. If you are dealt 49 or 50 points, you "tonk out" for an instant win.
Quick Rules
- 1Each player is dealt 5 cards — face cards are worth 10, Ace is 1, others are face value
- 2Draw from the deck or discard pile, then discard one card or lay down a spread
- 3Spreads: 3+ cards of the same rank (set) or 3+ consecutive same-suit cards (run)
- 4Drop: end the round by revealing your hand — lowest total wins (double penalty if you lose)
- 5Tonk out: if dealt 49 or 50 points, reveal immediately for an automatic win
